THE FOUR (4) TYPES OF SINS.

Pastor Daniel Gitahi

While we were inherently born sinners because of Adam’s sin, we become new creatures in Christ once we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. 2 Corinthians 5:17 states, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.

Moreover, “No one who is born of God will continue to sin because God’s seed remains in him (1 John 3:9). Nevertheless, some commit sins, which fall into one of these categories:

  1. The Sin of Attitude

An attitude is a settled way of thinking /feeling about something. Such sins include the feeling of anger, bitterness; jealousy; hatred, etc. Be wary when you find that you dislike somebody, for instance, or exhibit feelings of jealousy towards another person.

  1. The Sin of Action

This sin takes place when you “react” unlike the sin of attitude where you merely exhibit certain feelings towards another without reacting. The sin of action denotes the things we do to displease God. For instance, getting drunk, committing adultery, fornication etc, are sins of action.

In Joshua 1:7-8, The Lord commands Joshua to “Be strong and courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Revelation 22:15 states that “Outside are dogs, sorcerers, the sexually immoral, murderers, idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.”

Ephesians 4:26 further warns us not to, “Sin in our anger.” This implies that we’re not to react whenever we’re angry. Therefore, if you find that you’re the kind who insults others while angry, for instance, you’re guilty of the sin of action.

  1. The Sin of Neglect

The term “neglect” means the failure to do things we know God has commanded us to (James 4:17). For instance, 1 Thessalonians 5:17 urges us to “pray without ceasing.” If you’re the kind of believer who ignores your prayer life and prays hurriedly without planning, you’re committing this sin.

You’re equally guilty of this sin when you fail to fast yet you know you’re supposed to. Others even keep bad company yet the Bible warns us against it (1 Corinthians 15:33; 2 Corinthians 6:14-15). Keep in mind that even bearing false witness is a sin (Proverbs 6:19).  The sin of neglect also takes place when you’re no longer zealous when it comes to the things of God. For instance, if you reach a point where you’re no longer as prayerful or committed to the things of God-whether in service or church attendance, you’re committing this sin.

  1. The Sin of Intent

This is the kind of sin you commit in wish but not reality. For instance, committing adultery in your heart (Matthew 5:28). While in this case, you’re not guilty of adultery, you’re however guilty of the intention of sinning!

Which of these sins are you guilty of? Ask God to help you mend the areas that need rectifying. Live holy! Christ is coming soon for a blameless and spotless church!

HOLINESS

Pastor Daniel Gitahi

“Nothing impure will enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life” (Revelation 21:27). Many believers assume that just because they’re active in church-whether through singing or supporting God’s work financially, that they’ll automatically qualify to enter heaven. This isn’t the case.

We must keep in mind that God’s nature is holiness. 1 Peter 1:15-16 clearly reminds us that, “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

Holiness is the habit of being one mind with God

A holy “man” will strive to be like Christ and will seek the purity of heart. Jesus never sinned, so we should strive to be like Him. “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

You must be very careful to protect your faith before you do anything. Your fellowship with Christ should be the basis of your salvation and you’re supposed to hate sin as God does.

God isn’t a respecter of persons

God isn’t concerned about your title or societal status. Moreover, you can’t hide what you do from God. In fact, “Everything is uncovered and bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13). Be warned that you’ll face judgment for everything you do even in secret, for instance, tithe-eating. It would be shameful to miss heaven yet you claimed to be born again.

Sin is sin

There’s no such thing as a “big” or “small” sin. Sin is a sin. Therefore, a sinner is a sinner whether you’re in church or not. Many believers will in fact miss heaven as revealed in Matthew 7:13-14, “…for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it.”

God wants us to be like Him

God will let you go through the heat of the desert so you can be like Him and to get rid of a stony heart as He did the Israelites (Deuteronomy 8:2; Jeremiah 17:10). He wants us to reach a point where our faith doesn’t change irrespective of the circumstances we’re in. Remember, “It takes fire for God to have His man.”

God can’t entrust you with His work if you don’t qualify in holiness

The faith journey is that of perfection. Therefore, we go through the heat to be refined so God can invest in us. The Israelites went through the desert to obtain discipline. Remember, heaven doesn’t work with multitudes. Rather, it works with individuals.

Benefits of Holiness

It builds spiritual strength and stability

When God is pleased with you, He releases strength, which we acquire through the discipline process (Nehemiah 8:10). You must undergo discipline to stop some things, otherwise; God’s Kingdom can’t invest in your life if you haven’t undergone discipline (Hebrews 12:6). Moreover, God can’t invest in you if you’re not spiritually stable.

Holiness builds peace with God

You’ll be at peace with God when you live holy.

Is your name in the Book of Life? Christ is coming soon for a spotless church! Live holy!
